CHOSEN is a memoir of my first fourteen years growing up in the Caribbean on the islands of Barbados, Monserrat, and St. Vincent. It was a wonderfully different childhood, although it had its traumas, which have greatly impacted my life, both good and bad.

I was a much loved and cared for child, but the dynamics of the British Colonial rule in the Caribbean, the governmental control in the school system, and the islands cultural fervour during the 1950s and 60s all play a part in my perspective of the world around me as I aged. A stable home life did not equate to the same in the outside world.

Praise for Chosen, A Memoir:

Chosen is the story of a young girl’s multi-island life in the Caribbean. A visit to Jane’s Garden of Eden(s) is both fascinating and mysterious. Like Jane’s toy kaleidoscope, her tale is vivid and full of colorful imagery, revealing an exotic life one can only imagine.

George Francis Edward: author of  How to steal from Mom, and The Blue Bottles Writing Studio: A Variety of Stories.

Children don’t have much say in the choices that impact their lives. Jane spent her first fourteen years believing her grandparents were Mummy and Daddy. Jane is described as a precocious child, which  is obvious by her exacting and exciting memories of her early years growing up in the Caribbean, before moving to England at age 14. Chosen a compelling, must read book.

Christine M. Kendall: author of Resting in the Familiar and At Home on Upper Beaver Creek.

Until she turned fourteen, Elizabeth Jane Pryce roamed the isolated beaches of the 1950s Caribbean; she free-wheeled to school on her restored green bicycle. Jane’s island life ended abruptly, but her experiences created a resilient woman. I marvel at the stories in Chosen, A Memoir. I recommend it.

A group of four independent writers shares their creativity in this Anthology. Elizabeth Jane Pryce started the Blue Bottles Writing Studio as an informal writing group in 2018. Our first book was published two years later, in the spring of 2020. It contains five sections: Creative memoir – each member chose a topic of significance in their personal life. Short Stories – prompted by a single word or phrase. Stories from a Photograph – three writers use their imagination to create an original piece, and the fourth tells the true story of the photograph. The Newspaper Challenge – a series of tales written from a randomly chosen line in a newspaper. Also included were Scribblings, mini stories using five random words to tell a fun, flash story.
