Writing this morning began in bed. I got up and made my first cup of tea; I always make Earl Grey tea when I wake up. My writing time lasted all morning today, as both of my schnauzers slept until noon. I was working on one of the final chapters in the first half of my second memoir, the time back in England after the age of fourteen. It was causing me a few problems. But by twelve noon, I had finished writing and editing. I was happy. Here is a short excerpt from that chapter:
It is nearly time for my Tuesday writing group, where four of us share our current writing chapters.
I was tied to the mast with a rope around my waist, knee-deep in water, cleaning the flying fish we had caught earlier. The wind whipped my hair, and the sticky salt water whirled around my legs. I wasn’t afraid. I felt I was in heaven. When I looked up, I saw dolphins racing us and leaping across our bow.
Then the day got busy. I had to have breakfast, a toasted hot-cross bun, and coffee and feed and walk my dogs. A double job as each dog is walked separately. Daisy, my tiny eight-pound, seventeen-year-old, has only a short walk in the alley. Followed by a walk for Henry and me. He is my twenty-five-pounder, who prefers a walk where he can be let off-leash for a good run. Later, Henry and I visited an elderly friend, followed by a walk on the beach, where I picked up some pretty stones for the garden.
